Djanemag: How long do you work as a Dj and how do you begin with music and Djing?
Juma Martinez: I started learning the craft of DJing when I was in a middle school 13 years old. A family friend had her Dj equiptment (cdj's) at family parties and I wouldn't leave her side. I had to know all about it! I wanted to be the one controlling the Dance floor not just making requests. I loved to dance but I was born with this ear for music, knowing when another song should be mixed in came so natural. After this I knew that I had to learn and wanted to be the one creating such great vibes on a dance floor. 4 years later at the age of 17years old  I purchased my first CDJ mixer. I started Djing small high school parties and my friends would call me "DJ MANDIZZLE" haha))

In 2005 I started my journey in radio. Interning in Radio/being hired on and meeting amazing Dj's really amplified my passion for mixing. They were all men, So that's when I knew I wanted to be the top female (turntable) DJ in Phoenix. I looked up to so many of these Dj's. "Dj Myth, DJ Thaicoon, DJ M2 and DJ Mattafact. They all spun different genres in different ways and I wanted to learn everything they knew.  (old school, spanish, hip-hop, electro reggae")

After taking all these years to advance in the craft of DJing I have been DJing for 8years now!

Djanemag: Dj work needs much time, Djanes travel all over the world and have so little free time for rest. You have children! How do you combine Dj life with family life, because children need much time!?
Your children like your job, don't they? Maybe in a couple of years we will see Martisez Dj dynasty?))
Juma Martinez: As for my children they themselves want to be djs haha They already know the hand gestures when DJing! They are both 5years old. Julian is my biological son He calls himself "DJ JUJU" and Jeremiah is my wife's biological son "DJ JAY" They really love music and dancing! They get excited knowing "Mommy is going to Dj " when I have to work! Now that I've been married for 2 years to my wife she has become my biggest support when I DJ. I spend time with my children doing family things etc after they get home from school. I'll cook dinner, watch a movie or play games with them put them to bed then off to my gigs knowing that my wife will take good care of our children while I'm gone. We recently had a baby girl together, sharing our genes she is such a beautiful addition to our family. Jezrie :) She is 2 months old. Having A stable partner really helps when having children in this career. So I really owe it all to my wife for helping me raise our children. She also works 40 hrs a week :) We are both very driven woman who want the most for our children so hard work really is implemented in our daily life.

Djanemag: What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?

Juma Martinez: The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing how people react to the way I spin, non stop dancing on the dance floors, the cheering when I feel my crowd and put the exact song they were wanting to groove to! Receiving compliments during or after my gigs really makes me feel I am achieving what it is I wanted to do in this industry. When someone comes up and says "Juma can I have your card"?!  I know I'm doing exactly what I hoped to do. Over the years I have gained so much in this career, friends, knowledge, and spinning for events I never thought I could! Being apart of such large community events is very honoring when I know its for a great cause. Music brings such positive vibes to my life! I can honestly say I LOVE MY JOB!

Djanemag: What’s the most difficult thing about your job?

Juma Martinez: The most difficult part about my job is missing out on family events, birthday parties because those are usually on the days that I spin (weekends) and or sleep. I really don't sleep because I don't want to miss anything in my children's lives or life in general. but over the years juggling my career in radio, djing and having a family has become second nature. It is just who I am and I've learned to enjoy every hour in my days differently.

Djanemag: Do you have any exclusive news for readers at this moment you wanna share?

Juma Martinez: I will be starring on a television show "UMR" URBAN MUSIC REPORT LIVE as the new House dj for the series. Many events coming soon!!
